GCMHE Bemoans Ex-Plateau Assembly Speaker, Peter Azi

JOS, NIGERIA — The Acting Group Executive Director of Global Center for Media and Human Empowerment(GCMHE), Charles Ejoh, has expressed profound shock and deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Rt. Hon. Peter Ajang Azi, the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
The former lawmaker, who represented the Jos North-West constituency, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the age of 57.
In an official statement released on Friday, Comrade Ejoh described the death of the former head of the state’s legislature as an “irreparable loss” to both the legislative institution and the entire population of Plateau State.
Rt. Hon. Peter Azi served with distinction and remarkable humility as the Speaker of the 8th Plateau State House of Assembly between June 2015 and July 2018.During his political career, he earned a reputation as a de-tribalized leader and a critical bridge-builder. He consistently prioritized peace, community growth, and grassroots empowerment above partisan divides.
Beyond his impact within the state, Azi was highly active in the Conference of Former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly of Nigeria (COFFSHA), where he worked to strengthen democratic governance nationwide.
Comrade Ejoh extended his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the management and staff of Global Center for Media and Human Empowerment (GCMHE) to the Azi Ajang family, the Afizere traditional council, and the broader political community of Plateau State.
“We pray that Almighty God grants the bereaved family and all those he left behind the fortitude to bear this heavy loss ,” Ejoh stated.
