Ogbonnaya Onu, a former minister of science and technology in the Muhammadu Buhari administration, is dead.

Onu died at the age of 72.

The family confirmed the death in a statement by Uzoma Onu.

Eagle Eye News24 reports that the late politician has been having a running battle with his health and was about to be flown abroad for treatment after the sallah break before his death.

He was one of the presidential aspirants on the platform of the ruling party before the 2023 general election.The first civilian governor of Abia state reportedly died in an undisclosed hospital in Nigeria.

In 1999, Onu was elected as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Party (APP) which later became the All Nigerian Progressives Party (ANPP).
