Buhari bows to pressure, appoints EFCC board members

Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari has heeded to calls from Nigerians by his appointment of George Ekpungu as the secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Also nominated for appointment as Board Members are Luqman Muhammad representing the South South, Anumba Adaeze who represents the South East, Kole Adesina for the North Central and Yahya Muhammad for the North East
The nominations were confirmed in a statement from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and signed by his media aide Umar Gwandu.
If confirmed by the senate, the nominees will serve for a tenure of five years, in line with Section 2 (1) and Section 4 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act, 2004.
The EFCC has been operating without a board since 2015.
The statement also confirmed that the names of the nominees have been forwarded to the Senate for screening.
