Nigeria Professional Football League defending champion Plateau United of Jos on Friday improved its fortune in the current Nigerian Professional league by defeating current NPFL leaders Nassarawa United by a lone goal at the Zaria road Stadium in Jos.

The Tin City boys put up a spirited fight to ensure they end the unbeaten run of the Solid Miners as Nassarawa United is nicknamed to secure a hard earned victory in front of a sparsely crowd on Friday in Jos courtesy of a 35th minutes goal by Muhammad Zulkifulu Rabiu.

The North-Central derby had the trappings of a top of the table clash as both sides were more economically with their approach until the 36th minute goal by Plateau United which changed the entire game plan of both sides.Nassarawa United were determined to level up but met a brick wall in the Plateau United defense until the centre referee signaled the end of the match.

Our reporter revealed that Plateau United would have double their lead in the second half when stylish attacker Muhammad Zulkifilu’s shot in the 76th minute hit the bar but for the wood work that denied them a second goal in the keenly contested derby.

The match saw Plateau United exhausting all their three changes while their visitor made two changes in the match.

Recall that Plateau United secured a goaless draw in their week 6 away derby against home side Katsina United at the Muhammed Dikko in Katsina.

Plateau United will square it up against Warri Wolves of Delta in a mid-week derby on Wednesday in Ozoro while Nassarawa United will host Enyimba of Aba in Lafia in the week 8 league fixtures of the NPFL
