Eagle Eye Media condemns FG directive not to use Twitter

EAGLE EYE NEWS MEDIA, owners and operators of Eagle Eye Watch Newspaper, Eagle Eye News24 Braoadcast, says the directive by the federal government to organizations on Twitter operations amounts to an interference with its editorial policy.
In a statement by management of the media group, the directive is based on an announcement by the Federal Government which is arbitrary as ordered by the Federal Ministry of Information and the office of the Attorney General of the Federation in the Ministry of Justice threatening to sanction violators.
Eagle Eye News Media have suspended the use of Twitter handles in all its outfits but call on the international community to beckon on the federal government of Nigeria to reverse the ban with immediate effect or impose sanctions on the country.
NBC also directed radio and television stations in the country to uninstall their Twitter handles, suspend their patronage of the platform and using it to source for news.
Recall that the Nigerian government indefinitely suspended Twitter’s operations in the country, two days after the social media network removed a post from President Muhammadu Buhari that threatened to punish regional secessionists for attacks on government buildings.
Twitter was still working in Africa’s most populous country soon after Friday’s surprise announcement by the government, which did not give any time for the start of the suspension.
The news, which the information ministry announced on Twitter itself, sparked outrage among social media users in Nigeria, where Twitter is hugely popular.
