Kano Pillars coach Lionel Soccoia has blamed poor officiating for his side’s exit from the 2020-21 edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Nigerian side were held 0-0 at home by ASC Diaraf this past weekend, a result which saw the Senegalese outfit secure a 3-1 aggregate triumph and progression from the preliminary round.

Soccoia, who has been in charge of Pillars since October, argues that his team performed strongly across the two legs but were hit hard by refereeing decisions.

“The game was successful. Though in the first game poor officiating from two offside goals against us. We deserved two penalties in today’s game and were denied,” the Frenchman said, as quoted by Brila.

“The officiating was bad. If you have a good referee, the game would have been good,” he added.

Diaraf will face Ivorian side San Pedro in the next qualification phase, with the first and second leg matches scheduled for 22-23 December and 5-6 January.
