The Ag.Director-General of Global Center for Media and Human Empowerment(GCMHE)Charles Ejoh,a football aficionado, has rated Super Eagles of Nigeria attacker Moses Simon as the ‘man of the match’ as Nigeria beat the Pharoahs of Egypt 1-0 in the opening game of group D, on Tuesday evening at Stade Roumde Adjia in the northwestern city of Garoua.
A cagey opening half dominated by Nigeria sprang to life on 26 minutes when winger Moses Simon got behind the Egypt defence and fired into the side netting from a difficult angle.
Simon played a pivotal role when the Super Eagles took the lead four minutes later at the 30,000-capacity Stade Roumde Adjia in the northwestern city of Garoua.
. His cross was not fully cleared by Ahmed Hegazy and Nigerian Joseph Aribo nodded the ball into the direction of Iheanacho who hammered a half-volley past goalkeeper Mohamed Elshenawy.
Speaking in Jos capital of Plateau State,north-central Nigeria shortly after the game,Ejoh singled out the Jos- born speed wizard for his stylish and purposeful display for praise.
The sports aficionado said: “I think that Moses exhibited maturity and confidence today, not just his individual brilliance but team coherence, you know he mesmerized the Egyptian full back and he really worked for the team.
“He could have done more if we had more experienced lethal strikers in front of goal, he had many beautiful moments reminiscence of the legendary Super Eagles winger Humphrey Edobor who played for Nigeria during the 1988 AFCON hosted by Morocco.”
Recall that the Nigerian wing-wizard Moses Simon was the hero for his clubside FC Nantes when he scored a last-minute winner in a 3-2 win over RC Lens last December .
Meanwhile, the second match of the group fixtures between Guinea-Bissau and Sudan in a clash of Group D outsiders in Garoua ended goaless as group underdogs Guinea-Bissau failed to convert an 81st minute penalty awarded to them..
