Ex-Heartland FC Coach Dies In Ghastly Auto Crash

A former coach of Heartland FC of Owerri, Christian Obi, has died in a road accident involving members of the team on Friday.

The accident took place on the team’s way to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/ Select Pre Season tournament.The accident occured at Umunna close to Okigwe in Imo State.

A press statement from the club have confirmed the demise of the ex coach and other players involved in the road mishap.

Aged 57, Obi, who coached the team last season, was a Nigeria youth international goalkeeper who competed in the Men’s Football Tournament of the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul,South Korea.

Recall that Coach Christian Obi was in the eyes of the storm last season for his win less streak with Heartland FC were he was sacked but was reinstated by the Imo State governor Hope Uzodima.

Heart Land was eventually relegated before the purported purchase of slot from NPFL debutants Beyond Limits Football Academy and the engagement of ex-Super Eagles player Emmanuel Amunike as Technical Adviser for the upcoming league season.
