It is an honour and pleasure to join our well wishers, friends, partners, families and readers today to celebrate the 18th anniversary of one of Nigeria’s, and indeed Africa’s emerging newspaper.
This milestone not only marks almost two decades of journalistic brilliance. It also symbolises the enduring power of the press in shaping societies and fostering an informed citizenry. The Eagle Eye Watch Newspaper has done that in Nigeria over the last 17 years.
18 years ago, a group of young visionary persons came together under the leadership of our founding Executive Director Charles Ejoh to bring the conception of Eagle Eye Watch Newspaper to fruition.
It all started on August 12,2006 when the tabloid was founded in Jos,Plateau State,Nigeria .
There was something special about the publication that immediately lit up Nigeria’s media space.
The Eagle Eye Watch Newspaper was exceptionally well written and researched. It brought together some visionary set of people, entrepreneurs ,writers and editorial staff at that time, including Patience Mgbeafuluba, Jesse Obed, Lawrence Uruemukayobor, Elder Wale Salami,Martins Danjagla,Malfred Nyam, Kingsley Okonkwo,Peter Omachonu,Joy Madubuike and Nelson Iheanacho, just to mention but a few. These great patriots from various fields of endeavour supported the cause of these great venture.
Their invaluable contributions, journalistic brilliance and prose made the Eagle Eye Watch Newspaper gained in-road into the robust and competitive media industry in Nigeria .
Ever since, The Eagle Eye Watch Newspaper has been a steadfast beacon of truth, a “promoter” of good governance, and a mirror reflecting the myriad facets of our society. Its motto, “Towards an Informed Society” is apt.
In the absence of truth and without information, no nation, no society or institution can survive.
Over the years, this emerging news outfit publication has maintained the tradition of journalism despite the infiltration of quackery . It has helped to shape public discourse, champion accountability, and serve as a people’s watchdog. In doing so, the Eagle Eye Watch Newspaper has justifiably earned the respect of Nigerians and readers across the world.
Today, as we commemorate this significant anniversary, we laud the newspaper’s unwavering commitment to the principles of free speech, transparency, and the pursuit of truth.
We also salute the pioneer publishing spirit of Charles Ejoh, a graduate of Mass Communication, University of Lagos,Nigeria’s first Mass Communication accredited institution.the courage of the entire team and successive staffs, and legions of Eagle Eye Watch Newspaper journalists who have upheld the principles of editorial independence and freedom of expression.
True to its name, the Eagle Eye Watch Newspaper has remained a watchdog of society and progenitor of truth.
In this age of globalisation and internet, the role of the media extends beyond national frontiers.
The Eagle Eye Watch has, therefore, also been a voice for the oppressed.
The organisation has also morphed into daily on-line version:Eagle Eye Watch News and it’s Internet TV Station-Eagle Eye News24.
The Eagle Eye Watch Newspaper has not only been a voice to Africa,it also shares stories that resonate across the world.
