Plateau Govt imposes 24- hour curfew in Jos as GCMHE calls on security operatives to arrest  hoodlums

Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jos/Bukuru Metropolis midnight of Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Mutfwang, in consultation with state security agencies, took the decision after reviewing the actions of those exploited the nationwide protest to unleash terror on citizens.

The Governor noted that these criminal elements, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items.

Mutfwang, in a statement by his spokesman Gyang Bere, emphasised that the curfew was in the best interest of all citizens and urged everyone to comply fully to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.

He directed security agencies in the State to ensure the total enforcement of the curfew across Jos/Bukuru Metropolis.

He warned those planning to unleash further terror on innocent citizens to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law.

The Governor also called on the relevant security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in their duties to prevent any potential disruptions to law and order.

Meanwhile, a group under the aegis of Global Center for Media and Human  Empowerment(GCMHE) has called on the security agencies in Plateau State to urgently apprehend the hoodlums and armed  robbers that went about on Sunday to terrorize peaceful residents in some parts of Jos,namely:Zaria Road, Bauchi Road,Faringada and its environs.

The group made this statement in Jos,Plateau State capital on Monday,through its Director-Media and Advocacy,Edward E.E.

“We got a report about 5.30pm on Sunday around the Mobil Fuel Station, Zaria Road that armed carrying thugs were on a procession creating panic on the peaceful community and our team went out to get a first hand information.The thugs were not the peaceful protesters that gathered for an inter-denominational service at the Old Airport Roundabout.

We are using this medium to call on the security operatives to apprehend these hoodlums in their various hideouts and retrieve some of the stolen goods at their possessions.”.

Recall that that these armed hoodlums and robbers almost threatened the hard earned peace in Terminus Roundabout on Saturday as reported by Eagle Eye News24 but for the timely presence and intervention of the security operatives.
