NPFL 2023:Remo Stars fined N1.25m, over  assault on referee

Remo Stars have forfeited three points and three goals following the assault on match referee, Ndubuisi Ukah during their Nigeria Premier Football League match day 12 encounter against Gombe United last weekend.

The Sky Blue team was also penalised by the Interim Management Committee (IMC) for disrupting the match.

The encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium was abandoned at half-time after the match officials refused to come out of the dressing room citing assault from the home fans as a reason for their action.

The game which ended in a 0-0 draw was concluded on Monday morning.

The IMC also sanctioned Remo Stars for their failure to provide adequate security for the match officials.

The club will pay a fine of ₦1.25m while their general manager has been suspended from all NPFL activities.

The fine is expected to be paid within seven working days.

Remo Stars is expected to accept the ruling of the IMC or elect to appear before a Disciplinary Panel.

Meanwhile,Remo Stars will hope to redeemed their title chase when they confront Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan,who are bent to continue their new found form when they take on South West rivals, Remo Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan on Sunday.

The Oluyole Warriors are unbeaten in their last two Nigeria Premier Football League games boosting their chances of escaping relegation.

Gbenga Ogunbote’s side defeated Plateau United 3-2 on matchday 10 and edged out Kwara United 1-0 in Akure last weekend.

Coach Sikiru Alimi, who was in the books of Remo Stars last season, is targeting victory against his former club.

Eagle Eye Sports24 reports that the deduction of three points from Remo Stars have left them in fifth position in the Group A table of the NPFL Abridged League.
