The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Nsima Ekere.

He was arrested on Wednesday by EFCC operatives over corruption allegations running into about N47 billion.

Ekere was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Akwa Ibom State during the 2019 general election.

The arrest was confirmed by the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwajaren.

EAGLE EYE NEWS24 reports that in 2020,a group under the aegis of Niger Delta Youth Forum debunked a report linking former Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr Nsima Ekere, with a $16m allegedly found in the account of Brig. Gen. Charles Nengite and his wife by authorities in the United States.

The  NDYF then described the report as a ploy by the Ex-Minister of Niger Delta- Affairs, Godswill Akpabio who is presently a presidential aspirant under the APC, to unjustly indict Ekere. The group said it was deliberate attempt  to run down the former NDDC chairman.
